Extremism & The Ego

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief…and unspeakable love.

– Washington Irving

The purpose and purity we were born with we have lost. Tears we shed as babies unable to speak we have betrayed. Those tears cried in pain that we continue to carry through life with no purpose.

The grief is that we were born alone and will die alone and forget that this life is not one of grief – but joy. We seek power over others in one way or another to help turn our sadness into happiness and when we can’t have that we resort to more extreme measures – we manipulate ideas around religion, politics, race, economics, etc and gear them to control – others. But we will, like everyone will die alone – both the powerful and weak.

Extremism is a must to live. We should be extreme on ourselves not others. We must be strict on our own self and grow self-discipline to overcome that part of us that still desires grief and pain – our ego. To move away from seeking to control what is around us and control our self as that is what really matters when the chips are down. Let others make excuses and take shortcuts in their lives. Let others live their lives as rudderless boats without destinations. Its their lives, why must we force others to do anything.

I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. ‘Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death.

Leonardo da Vinci

The aim is to thrive not just survive as there is uniqness within that if not expressed betrays us. Many look and involve themselves in others and forget that they need only regulate their own life. Regardless if we are responsible for others the priority is to monitor and be stern only with only our self. We feel responsible for family, friends or people we come into contact with. Everyones standards are different. And when we can’t have them do our bidding – we become disillusioned. Individuality exists for a purpose. Standards of others – individual or society are there – but we must rise above and beyond their standards. Our duty is to ourselves as individuals first.

When pointing faults in others we must look for those faults in ourself. Being strict with ourself and forgiving of others is a must. In pointing out others faults and problems we seek to deflect from our cage of thoughts and feelings. Forgiving detaches ourselves from others problems and focuses on our own self imposed prisons.

Freedom is never given; it is won.

– A. Philip Randolph

Everyone has weaknesses and we are weak in our own way. The greatest battles and the greatest weaknesses are within. Deal with those first. This is not to say we ignore others weaknesses and let them be. Rather its our duty to ourselves to deal with our self before we seek to do anything for another. We can be kind to others by being extreme and strict on our self.

A man can be himself only so long as he is alone; and if he does not love solitude, he will not love freedom; for it is only when he is alone that he is really free.

– Arthur Schopenhauer

Practice meditation and breathe. This is you – you are not anyone else but you alone. The only real enemy you have is You. All others are just that… others.
