Burglars break into prison to steal inmates TVs

Burglars have twice in the past six weeks broken into a Dutch prison and stole television sets from cells whilst inmates were furloughs, a spokesperson for the justice ministry said on Wednesday.

The prison is located in the town of Hoorn, about 26 miles north-east of Amsterdam which houses inmates nearing their sentences. The Dutch government calls the facility a “very modestly protected environment,” which helps prisoners transition back into society.

The thefts happened on two separate weekends between March and April.  The ministry has still not been able to confirm how the burglars breached the prisons security twice. A spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office in Hoorn confirmed the break in had been reported to the police, however no arrest have been made yet.
