SunTzu – The Art of War & #NayaPakistan

Know your enemy, know yourself and opportunities multiply as they are seized.” said Master Sun Tzu: One of the greatest enemies of a nation is fear within people of their leaders. A people cannot do their best if the masses mindset cannot feel that it can express itself freely. In a democracy people are more willing to express themselves and find a collective way forward. In #NayaPakistan the hope is that people will fear less at not just expressing themselves to their leaders and but to keep them on their toes in building a more economically powerful, educated and free nation.

Master Sun Tzu said – Know Yourself, Know Your Enemy and Seize Opportunities.

Know Yourself: Pakistan is racially and ethnically diverse, In 1947, when the founder of modern Pakistan – Muhammad Ali Jinnah spoke  he said. “You are free, free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other places of worship in this state of Pakistan, You may belong to any religion or caste or creed — that has nothing to do with the business of the state.” That was #NayaPakistan, that was #JinnahKaPakistan which emphasised equal citizenship for all Pakistanis. This is who Pakistanis are, They are not limited to a particular group however a loud the groups voice maybe. A nations strength lies in its people – all of the people. Pakistanis need to cease pushing each other down and rise to the challenge together.

Know Your Enemy: The greatest enemies of the people within Pakistan are poverty, corruption and extremism – these three ‘unwise monkeys’ have held the nation hostage. #NayaPakistan must be focused on empowering the poor, fighting institutionalised corruption and addressing extremism in a more mature systematic way. There must be unity on the national level – political parties regardless of differences have to be brought to the table as the nations interest is paramount – not any party or individual. The team wins if its of one mind, those who are not team players need to be out.

Seize Opportunities: In the past few decades many opportunities presented themselves to Pakistan for development, soft diplomacy, innovation, collaboration, trade development and were not taken advantage of as people – like many others around the world – kept looking to others to lead. Sometimes it wasn’t in the ‘personal’ interests of some of those in power that the nation which they claimed to love should benefit. #NayaPakistan needs to about the people and the national interest of the nation – not of any individual. Opportunities need to be seized for as Master Sun Tzu said “Opportunities Multiply As They Are Seized”.

Master Sun Tzu said “If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant.”

People are emotional and Pakistanis are no different – the politics of emotion needs to exorcised and politics of logic must replace it – this is something political parties and people who wish to be ‘leaders’ of people have used and abused to the detriment of the nation and its people for quick short term gains for themselves.

Ask not what Pakistan can do for youask what you can do for Pakistan.

#NayaPakistan is a slogan and a promise by PM Elect Imran Khans PTI party that corruption and poverty will come to an end but this resonates much wider within the nation. Sun Tzu said “There is no instance of a nation benefitting from prolonged warfare.” When a nation has diversity in its people it is a strength from which the nation can benefit. PM Khan has ambitions and goals he has set for the nation. But he cannot do these himself – he needs to tell the people of Pakistan – to paraphrase President Kennedy ‘Ask not what Pakistan can do for youask what you can do for Pakistan.’ The people are the key. All of the people.

Positive ties with neighbouring nations are a must if Pakistan is to become economically powerful, independent and a successful nation. Master Sun Tzu said “Supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy’s resistance without fighting.” There are vested interests within and outside Pakistan who do not wish for a strong Pakistan – I will remind Pakistanis to study The Art of War in the teachings  of Master Sun Tzu there are teachings at how ‘the enemy can be turned’.

#NayaPakistan or #NewPakistan is not a Pakistan of Imran Khan or of any leader but the people of Pakistan – especially the youth of Pakistan, the youth are the engine of any nation and an empowered, involved, educated youth can make sure that tomorrows #NayaPakistan is even stronger.

Master Sun Tzu said – “Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.” in Pakistans relations with other nations – its own national interests need to be paramount. PM Khan should ask Overseas Pakistanis to play a productive and mature role politically within the nations they reside in. Here in the United Kingdom many Pakistanis seem to be involved in Pakistani politics rather than British politics, if you ask the name of their local MP in the UK on average they don’t know but ask of Pakistani politicians they know more – this kind of mentality has played into those who consider Pakistan and Pakistanis a problem outside Pakistan. Sun Tzu said – “Therefore the clever combatant imposes his will on the enemy, but does not allow the enemy’s will to be imposed on him.”

Of those Pakistanis within Pakistan who have talked about rigging – understand that Imran Khan is now going to be Prime Minister and the way forward is to work from within the system and keep the government on its toes, show Pakistan and Pakistanis until 2023 what kind of leaders you are by working under the #NayaPakistan slogan and make it your own.

May Allah bless Pakistan and congratulations to all Pakistanis.
