CII Vs Islam: Does The Quran Really Permit Child Marriage?

Originally posted on Muslim Reformation:
One of the biggest misconceptions about Islam is that it permits child marriage, and is therefore looked down upon as medieval, oppressive and illogical by non-Muslims. Shockingly, instead of viewing this as a downright tarnation and disgrace to Islam, Muslims in complete ignorance of the Quran actually defend and support this point of view! If Muslims, themselves, are going to portray such an image of their religion, then I really don’t see why they would get agitated with the criticism on Islam. I say this with my deepest regrets, but Muslims have become their own… Continue reading CII Vs Islam: Does The Quran Really Permit Child Marriage?

US trying to attack Israel’s defence chief?

The fact that Nethanyahu merely slaps Yaalon on the wrist but never fires him is also a humiliation to the US. But what can Obama do? He doesn’t have any real leverage or all his donors (or rather, most of the democratic donors his party needs in the midterms) will be breathing down the neck, not to mention the shitstorm in the pro-Israel media, such as the NYT, WaPo, WSJ etc… Anyway here is the article: Now the US is trying to ‘delegitimize’ Israel’s defense minister Philip Weiss of http://mondoweiss.net/ Moshe Ya’alon with Pam Geller, in 2006, from Wikimedia commons Have you followed … Continue reading US trying to attack Israel’s defence chief?

Why consciousness expanding plants are feared and deemed illegal?

By Sergey Baranov   shamansworld.org Image source: Sergey Baranov, Samaipata, Bolivia, 2013 I remember a story once shared with me by a person who was a middle aged Russian man who had never had or even heard of psychedelic experiences or higher states of consciousness. He joined our conversation which I had with a friend about shamanism and spiritual realms. After being quiet for some time he asked if he could share his story. He said he felt that we were the guys who would understand him and we were the first people with whom he was sharing this with … Continue reading Why consciousness expanding plants are feared and deemed illegal?

Westboro Baptist Church To Protest Fred Phelps’ Funeral, Says Daughter

With reports that the Rev. Fred Phelps Sr. dead, many quipped the Westboro Baptist Church, the very organization he founded, would picket his funeral as they have so many others in the past. It might sound like a joke, but apparently it’s the real deal: The WBC will hold a demonstration at the funeral of their former pastor. Phelps Sr., 84, got back in the news Sunday when his estranged son Nathan posted a note to Facebook saying the pastor is currently in hospice care and was excommunicated from the organization for reasons that remain unclear. As twisted as it may be, his daughter Margie … Continue reading Westboro Baptist Church To Protest Fred Phelps’ Funeral, Says Daughter

Cultural terrorism in the name of Islam

DESTROYING the imprints of history, culture and tradition can be termed ‘cultural terrorism.’ The recent attacks on cinemas in Peshawar and elsewhere weren’t simply acts of terrorism but also depict the mindset of the attackers: they wish to destroy diversity. Extremists in this part of the world want to not just snatch away the right to life, but also eliminate culture. The cinema still attracts poor folk.   These attacks affect the country’s dying cinema industry while depriving the working class of an easily accessible form of entertainment. But it’s not just the cinemas. Attacks such as those on … Continue reading Cultural terrorism in the name of Islam

How Crimea plays in Beijing

“We are paying very close attention to the situation in Ukraine. We hope all parties can calmly maintain restraint to prevent the situation from further escalating and worsening. Political resolution and dialogue is the only way out.”  This, via Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong, is Beijing’s quite measured, official interpretation of what’s happening in Ukraine, tailored for global consumption.  But here, in a People’s Daily editorial, is what the leadership is really thinking. And the focus is clearly on the dangers of regime change, the “West’s inability to understand the lessons of history”, and “the final battlefield of the Cold … Continue reading How Crimea plays in Beijing
